Standard method of compressing
data for storage and transfer
Zip files are very popular on the
Internet because they can reduce vast amounts of information using a
compression algorithm to reduce the amount of space that an application can take up. This file type is as an application that, for example, can compress a file that is 5
megabytes in size into a 2-megabyte zip file that is obviously quicker to
download.
Application programs such as, PKZIP or Winzip can compress
data into a zip file & extract the contents from a zip file. Zip files have a
file extension of zip.
