So, what is this all about?

As a web developer who volunteered for many non-profit organizations, i found that i was spending more and more time updating web sites. I was happy to set up (conventional) web sites for various organizations, but would then end up getting bogged down doing the updates. Folks within the organization would send me an e-mail, asking for certain information to be put on the site. Often, i was not directly involved in the project or activity, and would not know how to best organize/edit/present the information.

It became apparent that there should be a better way....

Give the content producers the power...

Contentor allows the people that produce the content the full power to present that information on their web site. "Webmaster" was always an uncomfortable term - EVERYBODY should be "masters" of their information online.
Contentor was designed for small to medium-sized web sites, typical of sites for/by small non-profit corporations or individuals. In these cases, it is not reasonable to or affordable to pay a skilled web developer/designer to perform routine edits to the site.

Design Philosophy

In any designed system, there is a compromise between the power of the system, the number of features offered, and the easy of use. Some popular content management systems (CMS) have a wide array of 'add-on' modules available to add features to the site. Other CMS offer extensive collorabative and data management functions. All of these features are fine for those who need them and have the time/necessity to learn how to use them, but, for most applications, these additional features are not needed.
Contentor was designed to be as easy as possible to use. For every feature, careful consideration was given to the usefulness of the feature as weighed against the added complexity. Contentor was also designed to produce sites that are accessible to people with disabilities.
At the same time, every effort was made to allow flexibility. For example, you can create a page layout in an .html editor and cut and paste the code into a page section.
